Why is gallery using so much data

Open that menu and turn it on—that's it! Data Saver compresses incoming web traffic to save space, and it really doesn't have that much effect on your experience. Storing map data offline is a good idea whether you want to save data or not. It makes your commute smoother, and longer trips will never leave you without a map in unfamiliar territory.

It's easy to do, too. Open the menu in Google Maps. You'll see Offline Areas right in the first few options—that's what you want to select. From there click the plus sign and you'll see a map highlighted with a blue circle. Pinch to zoom in or out, tap download, and it will download anything inside the square. There are still a few ways to track and limit your data use, but if you're hoping for an Android-like option that terminates data once you near your cap you're out of luck. It's simple to disable background app data in iOS.

Open up the Settings app, and tap Cellular. Once you're there, scroll down a bit and you'll see a list of every single app you have installed. Tap to turn off the ones you want to stop from using cell data—that's it! Search Everywhere Threads This forum This thread.

When you restart your gallery after this operation, it'll take some time to load and it will once again show you how to navigate through the Gallery app. This is can be seen on the screen right then because when you press the Clear Data button and once the data is cleared, you will notice that under the Cache section, Cache shows 0. It doesn't contain any images of yours, nor you can access it unless you root your device.

You see how the whole path is different? Because they are in the completely different parts of the device. Well, these folders are on the different partitions, they just don't have drive letter prepended to them.

You see, loading gigabytes of photos in memory just to display a small preview isn't terribly efficient. If you delete them, it'll be smart enough to do it again next time it needs previews - take the whole picture, read every 16th pixel for example , make a new picture out of it and store it in cache.

If you go ahead and access all pictures in Gallery now, you'll have those 50MB back in no time I suppose there isn't a bug in the application and it cleans cache properly. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top.
