Birth trauma, childhood trauma, insecure or disorganized early attachment can all carry forward as unconscious, implicit memory emotional memory that, in stressful circumstances, can arise and interfere with parent-infant bonding.

However, when a parent is able to communicate aspects of their historical pain, shock or distress, within a context of empathic and validating dialogue, this can often clear the way for pleasurable and spontaneous bonding. Health practitioners are in a unique position to invite and hold an empathic dialogical space, in which parents can feel emotionally safe enough to tell a little of their own story. This Presentation is currently available through:.

I had a lot of scheduling and time restraints so I am so thankful for this virtual option. All too often the struggles of mothering, including childbirth complications, premature weaning and difficulties with bonding are in fact late expressions of unresolved abuse or neglect, or some kind of emotional wounding in the mother. Information and encouragement miss the point when what is needed is therapy.

This presentation helps practitioners to open a deeper dialogue with mothers, to identify possible abuse or neglect histories, adverse childhood experiences, and to use empathic dialogue to re-enable responsive and fulfilling mothering. It can be surprising how emotionally authentic dialogue in a safe environment is sometimes all it takes to restore maternal confidence, responsiveness and enjoyment.

The vast array of speakers, the convenience of watching at my leisure and ability to earn CERPs was a great benefit. I have been able to immediately apply a lot of it in my role of public health lactation support. I really appreciate the kinds of questions I am asked and how receptive the audience is to the kind of presentation content I provide.

Very few conferences want a presenter to do the off the beaten track material I like to present. After university, I spent many years training in a number of psychotherapy modalities; in particular: group therapy and body-oriented psychotherapy. Psychotherapy continues to be a commitment and passion for me. Besides this: playing music guitar, singing and percussion is my second vocational passion — and I strongly believe in the healing properties of music.

My wife Linda and I are entering a new life-phase of re-invigoration and creativity, as our beloved year-old daughter sets forth on her global voyages of self-definition, adventure and overseas study. Fatherhood has been the heart-center of my life, and the most life-changing and humbling of all my learning experiences.

I love to research and to write about all the sciences and knowledge systems that clarify what it is to be human and illuminate our quest for our truest potential.

I have written many article s for parents and for professionals who work with children; and they have been translated into multiple languages and republished around the world.

My newest book is in the pipeline, so…stay tuned! I travel around Australia and the world delivering keynote addresses, seminars and workshops. If you would like to find out more about my counselling sessions, or how to engage me to speak at your school, workplace, festival or conference, please contact me and I will be glad to answer your questions. This Level 1 online training is for psychologists, counsellors, all health practitioners. As our international community of Journey Guides grows, the results that we see are wonderful!
